Summer Show, 8th August 2015
We were back again at the popular venue of St. Nicholas Church Centre, Bedhampton, on Saturday 8th August. Visitor numbers were slightly down on last year which we put down to the lovely sunny afternoon. There was a good variety of vegetable and flower entries, in spite of the once again, difficult growing conditions. Sadly rose entries were down again. The photographic section was very well supported as were the cookery and handicraft which were of a high standard, giving the judges a difficult task in deciding the winners.
Anne Buckley organised a charming and popular Pooh Corner for the children with games and handicrafts with a bee theme. The refreshment tables were also decorated with bee tablecloths and bee friendly flowers to echo the floral arrangements competition using bee friendly flowers. Information on the essential nature of bees to our environment and our crops was also displayed.
There were stands with items for sale, including:
Karen’s Blooming Art – hand painted floral designs

Kay Dickinson Fabrics
Clothes and items of a crafty nature
We also had a very popular book stall run by Michelle West; jam and plants were for sale as well as a raffle run by Anne Newcombe to raise funds for the Society.
Very many thanks go to Geoff Tanton and Liam Hutchings who organised this successful show, and to Mrs Maureen Ballard–Neale, Entries Secretary. We are very grateful to Mr and Mrs Monk and Mr and Mrs Bunnage who ran the kitchen and our other teams for all their hard work making this enjoyable event a success once more. As Brian Kidd said in his speech after the prize giving, shows of this nature are becoming rare events, and every effort should be made to keep up the tradition.
Thanks also to all our sponsors, exhibitors, judges, supporters and helpers for their valuable contributions.
