Summer 2005 Newsletter
A reminder that the summer show is fast approaching!!! This year there will be no road works outside the United Reformed Church Hall and the road by Waitrose is due to be open in Mid July, so access should be much easier! Don’t forget that the Show is on Saturday 30th July and is open to the public at 1pm.
Entries can only be accepted from members, but this includes everybody in the household from Mums & Dads to children and grandchildren, so please make a special effort this year and out in as many entries as possible. Late entries can be accepted up to 4pm the day before!! There are classes for flowers, fruit, vegetables, cookery, photography, handicrafts, children and even one for novelties and a Great Disaster, so I’m sure there is something that you could enter!! If you would like to make an entry and are not a member, please contact Biddy Wylie to join.
In case you have heard anything to the contrary, or had any doubts on seeing the fenced off area, the store is still open. You can get to it along the lane by the side of the Fire Station as usual. We hope to have better access once the site is developed, but this will take some time!! Many thanks to Gwen and her team for all the hard work they do to keep the store up and running.
This was a talk on Gardening on Chalk and if you did not come, you missed a real treat. The speaker, Sarah Coles, gave an excellent talk with some beautiful slides on plants that would grow on chalk as well as other types of soil. If you are interested, she has written a book on the subject.
It was a shame that we did not have more people there, as this was a really good evening, enjoyed by all. The fish & chips were delicious and there were a couple of fun quizzes to keep us amused. Many thanks to all the organisers for all their hard work in making the occasion such a success.
