Summer Gardening Event, 15th June 2019

Our 2019 Summer Gardening Event at St Faith’s Church Hall, Havant was held on 15th June, and although slightly earlier this year was another great success with many visitors. However, although we had more categories and the show is based on the fun of gardening with a relaxed atmosphere, there were fewer entries, probably due to the difficult growing conditions.

The event saw side attractions with Leigh Park Scouts running a competition to open a prize laden box with a raffled key. Friends of Palestine had a selection of hand made items or goods and Havant Friends of the Earth’s stall had the environmental message to get rid of single use plastics, and be kind to bees.

There was a splendid display of Bonsai by Cliff Rowe and Havant Men’s Shed displayed a wonderful selection of expertly hand made wooden articles. Havant Tree Wardens were represented and there was an exhibit promoting Gardening for Wildlife. Plants and Crafts were also on sale as well as refreshments. The neighbouring Gazebo Garden was open for visitors as an added attraction.

Chairman Liam Hutchings presented the winner’s awards helped by Karen Hinks and congratulated all who entered. Our President Brian Kidd was unable to be with us this year for family reasons but kind regards were extended. The afternoon ended with a raffle drawn by Liam who closed proceedings with a vote of thanks to all who had contributed to very enjoyable day.
