Summer Gardening Event, 22nd July 2017

Our Summer Gardening Event was held this year at St Faith’s Church Hall in Havant, which proved to be a great success in spite of all the rain!

Following the call from the Royal Horticultural Society in its three-year campaign “Greening Grey Britain” we put on a Summer Show with a difference, in an attempt to reach out to young people and adults hesitant about putting in show entries with formality to get involved,

The event achieved its objective with all three schools participating, Barncroft Primary, St. Alban’s C of E and Trosnant Infant and Junior, who showed attractive and imaginative displays. This was echoed by the adults who also took up the offer to put in exhibits for various class entries for flowers and vegetables, as well in the photographic section.

The event saw side attractions such as a tombola run by Leigh Park Scouts and stalls run by, Havant Friends of the Earth in which they put over the environmental message on bee survival and gardening, The W.I. who also had a stall, and a splendid display of Bonsai by Cliff Rowe. Havant Camera Club also displayed the usual high standard of photography showing photos on the theme of gardening.

Plants and Crafts were also on sale as well as refreshments.

Brian Kidd (Society President) ended the very successful gardening event by presenting the awards. In the spirit of event Brian also encouraged those did and did not win to come back next year and have another go.
