Spring 2016 Newsletter
From the Chairman
Members and supporters are due a newsletter and there is no more opportune time than in this season, with the joys of spring and gardens returning to the fullness of life. It is time to remind you of upcoming events, like the summer show.
This will be on Saturday the 6th of August at St. Nicholas Church Centre in Belmont Grove, Bedhampton. Exhibits can be displayed after 8am and the show is open to the public at 2pm – entrance fee is 50p. Many thanks to those who have entered anything in the past and please may we have lots and lots of entries this year to make this show special. Even if you can’t enter anything yourself, please support us by coming to see the show! There are the usual range of categories from flowers, veg and fruit to handicrafts, cakes and jam. This year’s theme for the flower arranging is ‘a posy’. This must be no more than 8 inches across and can be exhibited flat or in a container of your choice.
We would encourage children to enter a posy, which could be made from wild flowers [provided that they are not of a protected species – check in the library or online if you are not sure]
Entries can be from anyone, not necessarily members, so please talk to friends and neighbours and encourage them to enter something. Anyone who has entered before will automatically be sent a schedule, but new entrants can be provided with one by calling Geoff Tanton on (02392) 479419.
This is on Wednesday the 27th of April in our usual location of the United Reformed Church Hall, Elm Lane at 7.30pm. The talk will be on the subject of ‘the lawn’ and the speaker will be Wilf Simcox. I’m sure that there is something new that we can learn about keeping our lawns lush and green.
The Supper will be on the 25th of May in our usual location of the United Reformed Church Hall, Elm Lane and will start at 7.30pm. It is an American supper with everyone bringing a contribution. Please let Biddy know on (02392) 475226 if you would like to come, so that she can sort out numbers and what everyone is bringing. A lady from the Friends of the Gazebo Garden will give us a short talk about their work and there will be a quiz.
