Speaker: Peter Gardner
Date: 31st October
Peter’s talk could have been called “All you wanted to know about Fuchsias but were afraid to ask”, it really was wide ranging. He covered the subject from species fuchsias to large doubles with particular reference to his own collection.
He told us he had about 300 plants in his garden, from bush to standards to hanging baskets and illustrated his collection with beautiful slides to prove it. He chose to concentrate on fuchsias after he became a hay fever sufferer and fuchsias as we know have no scent.
He explained all about watering and feeding for healthy specimens and how to be successful with cuttings. He also told us his method for over wintering the tender plants by wrapping them in newspaper and stacking them in his greenhouses. Peter’s talk was enjoyed by a record number of visitors and clearly enjoyed by all.
